morning routines for well-being
ORAL HYGIENE – Try and resist buying and using the main brands for toothpaste and floss. Look for non fluoride toothpaste and a bio/eco floss that will not harm yourself or the planet. Use a soft bristled toothbrush (electric ionic) if possible to remove more plaque and protect your precious tooth enamel. Use a brine of some sort to rinse the mouth and a tongue scraper (copper) to maintain mouth health. Brush the gums towards the teeth in one direction. Use oil pulling after brushing for detoxification and gum health. Consider the removal of any amalgam metal fillings (now banned for children and pregnant women) that leech liquid mercury overtime and are made from a metal alloy mixture, they are an obstacle for well being.
OCULAR HEALTH – The eye muscles themselves can be exercised by focusing on the horizon (distance and back to mid ground repeatedly). Researching some elements of the controversial Bates method, including relaxation and palming. Bates believed that relieving a habitual “strain” was the key to improving sight. Bates saw the use of glasses as a crutch for the eye which serve a temporary purpose but will degrade the vision further over time. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bates_method. The disturbing thing about the degeneration of our eyesight is that it is a modern phenomenon, less than 200 years old and seems like a man-made problem. Good eye health includes eating well, whole foods and in particular, reducing the linoleic acid intake from vegetable seed oils. BTW, I do not endorse eating breakfast as a general rule to extend the overnight fasted state.
MENTAL HEALTH – This could include Meditation (awake with eyes closed). Gratitude training (focusing on what is and who are important in your life). Organisation for clarity of mind, clear thinking and greater productivity. Prioritising and nurturing the relationships in your life. I have covered Hormesis in another blog post here. Hot and cold therapies are surely beneficial at any time of the day!
ELECTROLYTES – When your cells are hydrated, their membranes stay neat and tight, they hold and pass on an electrical charge easily. When cells become dehydrated, membranes get loose, and an electrical charge will leak and dissipate before being passed on. Your phase angle measures how well your cells carry and pass on a charge. A phase angle of 10 and your cells are hydrated perfectly. Most people hover around an angle of 6. We can reach level 8 or 9 with cellular hydration. Electrolytes dissolve in water, giving it the ability to conduct electricity and many of your cells run on electricity. The electrolytes dissolved in your cellular water enable the transfer of the charge, including your brain cells only communicating with other brain cells if shocked with enough it. You should focus on electrolytes in your diet so your cells can communicate electrically with one another!
Magnesium comes in many different forms including bath salts. Taurate, malate and bisyglycinate are the preferred forms for oral supplementation. Grey (celtic) salt is harvested from small less polluted water sources and has a stable iodine content compared with himaylan/pink salt where the iodine level varies greatly. Potassium deficiency is widespread and is available as a affordable supplement. With sufficient electrolytes you are in position to hydrate from a cellular level and this can be done first thing in the morning while fasted.
LIGHT + GROUNDING – Blue light in the morning is crucial to create the sleep regulating hormone melatonin and to restore our cortisol reservoirs. That natural alert feeling in the morning comes from cortisol and this is blunted by late nights and blue light/device stimulation, which depletes the cortisol and leaves us more groggy in the mornings. Blue light (natural) in the morning and red light (incandescent bulbs) at night seem to be optimal for sleep quality and well-being. Blue light blocking glasses can help simulate that outdoor light scenario in the evening, to assist in the advent of melatonin production and winding down for sleep.
Grounding is often overlooked as a natural therapy for controlling exposure to electromagnetic frequencies. This is simply connecting with the low frequency of the ground by standing bare foot on the grass or soil and touching the soil with your hands etc. Grounding mats are sold to simulate this process of the earth by reducing the frequencies emitting from the technology, devices and appliances in your home. Shungite is a type of black rock from a particular area of Russia with grounding and shielding properties.
